News < BACK Bike 2 CAP AIDS 2010 Campaign: A Great Success!

By Liberty Looker, CAP AIDS 2010 Summer Student Intern

Hundreds of highly energized riders and passionate volunteers across Canada participated in our 2010 Bike 2 CAP AIDS Bike-a-thon campaign in June, and helped CAP AIDS to raise over $40 000.  We couldn’t have done it without you.  THANK YOU!

Toronto Bike 2 CAP AIDS 2010 rider send off!The campaigns’ events, held in Toronto (June 19), Vancouver (June 19), Ottawa (June 20) and Victoria (June 26), were unforgettable for the participants.  As usual the events were lively, fun-filled and family-friendly.  At the end of the ride participants enjoyed a barbeque picnic and exquisite live performances.

The Bike 2 CAP AIDS Bike-a-Thon Campaign is a way for Canadians to make a difference in the deadly serious fight against HIV+AIDS in Africa .  The funds raised will enable CAP AIDS to continue making a direct, grassroots and meaningful impact in the fight to resist, survive and overcome AIDS in Africa

CAP AIDS will:

  • Empower at least 112 local African heroes with a new bicycle and other supports. With a sustainable and affordable means of transportation, these local heroes can provide HIV AIDS prevention, care, and support services to five times as many people, and have a much bigger impact; and
  • Empower at least 88 AIDS-orphaned African youth with vocational skills training.  With a skilled vocation, orphaned youth can gain employment, earn a better living, rebuild their confidence, and care for their younger siblings.

CAP AIDS wishes to thank the following dedicated volunteers who fundraised, donated and/or participated in the events:

  • Top individual fundraisers: Blair Bowen, Michael Polanyi, Obert Madondo, Chris Friesen, Dwayne Hodgson, Sara Pugh, Mark Gifford, Kevin Perkins, Brian Hoeniger, Manzur Malik, Andriata Chironda, Lindsay Marsh, Rainos Mutamba, Kristin Marshall, Kamlyn Ng-See-Quan, Eva Sheppard-Perkins, Derek Kunsken, Richard Shears, and Noah Adams
  • Top volunteers: Emily Chartrand, Fiona Roome, Bonnie Joyce, Aarti Kumaria, Margaret Looker, Hannah Cogan, Michelle Melski, Evelyn Agyemang, Nina, Aziza, Ellen Hunter-Perkins, Thomas Hoyer-wood, David Macauley and Comfort Ero

CAP AIDS would also like to thank the following sponsors and supporters:

  • World University Service of Canada (WUSC), Ottawa Kiosk, Canadian Springs, Choices Markets, Cobs Breads, Bandidas, Sunrise Soya Foods, Commercial Drive, African Stages Association of BC, and Tambai Marimba.

Your continued support is essential to CAP AIDS’ and our African partners’ continuing effort in providing direct assistance to African AIDS orphaned youth and AIDS caregivers.  We can not let staggering HIV+AIDS statistics numb us and leave us feeling powerless to help.  Instead, all Canadians must follow your good example. Thank you again for doing your part!

We hope you will join us for the 2011 Bike 2 CAP AIDS Bike-a-thon campaign. Mark your calendars!

CAP AIDS wishes you and your family the best in 2010.
