News < BACK CAP AIDS World AIDS Day 2009 Event A Great Success

On Friday, December 4, 2009, CAP AIDS joined the rest of the world in commemorating World AIDS Day. CAP AIDS World AIDS Day (WAD) event was held at The Annex Live, in the vibrant Annex community of Toronto.

The event was an unforgettable social evening featuring live Canadian and African musical performances, dance, food, drinks, prizes and a silent auction. We raised almost $5000 to support CAP AIDS’ Vocational & Employment Skills Training Programs benefiting AIDS-orphaned youth in Ethiopia and Uganda.

CAP AIDS wishes to thank the following groups, individuals and organizations for helping us to stage another successful event to help the heroes in the ongoing struggle to resist, survive and overcome AIDS in Africa:

GUEST SPEAKER: Councillor Adam Giambrone, Chairperson, Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). 

PERFORMERS:

  • Tokyo Giants Band: R&B, blues & roots inspired by the Blues Brothers, The Commitments, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, etc, and a regular at Toronto music festivals.
  • Treasa Levasseur: Recently featured on CBC radio 1 and 2, Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star and national TV.
  • Lickpenny Loafer: Passionate Toronto indie rock band currently in the studio completing their first full-length album. www.lickpennyloafer.com
