CAPAIDS
Get Involved High School Students & Youth

CAP AIDS recognizes the importance of community involvement for students as a key component of academic and personal growth. Currently CAP AIDS has two options for students seeking out-of-school career-related experience and credit hours for high school graduation:

Shut up & Do Something (SUADS) Campaign |

The Shut Up & Do Something (SUADS) campaign mobilizes Canadian high school students and young Canadians to support CAP AIDS' work with grassroots, community-based African HIV+AIDS organizations in Africa.

The SUADS campaign is mostly school-based and requires students to:

  • Organize a school-wide event
  • Mobilize their schools and friends to participate in the campaign
  • Fundraise from their personal contacts in support of the event; and
  • Educate others about HIV+AIDS in Africa

The funds raised will support CAP AIDS’ programs benefitting AIDS-affected youth in Africa. To help you organize a successful event, CAP AIDS provides a full package of resources including: a student-friendly website, How-to Manual, educational videos and resources, campaign posters, pledge sheets and information about CAP AIDS’ work in Africa.

Please visit the SUADS 2010 website to learn more and participate in the Campaign.

Volunteering for High School Credit Hours and Work Experience

CAP AIDS offers students the opportunity to work in our Toronto-based head office. The students will perform administrative tasks, including:
  • Data entry
  • Preparing packaging and mailing donor tax receipts and thank you letters
  • Electronic and manual filing
  • Telephone Duties
  • Photocopying
  • Faxing
  • Maintaining office and equipment; and
  • Providing administrative and logistical support to CAPAIDS’ events

Both options have a strong "service learning" bias. Students gain valuable work experience and learn about development work and HIV+AIDS in Africa. More specifically, students participating in both programs will learn about how HIV+AIDS affects young people in Africa. The SUADS campaign goes a step further and allows participating students to be part of the response to HIV+AIDS in Africa. Students mobilize their schools and personal contacts to raise funds to support CAP AIDS’ programs benefitting AIDS-affected youth in Africa.
