About Bike 2 CAP AIDS Bike-a-thon Campaign 2010

Bike 2 CAP AIDS (B2CA) Campaign History | Canada, Ethiopia, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania &Uganda

AIDS in Africa is a big problem – perhaps the greatest health crisis in history. Over 160,000 people die of AIDS every month in Africa. But, we don’t need to be overwhelmed and numbed by the statistics. We can make a difference and have a positive impact - that's why CAP AIDS will host our annual Bike 2 CAP AIDS Bike-a-Thon Campaign across Canada in June.

The Bike 2 CAP AIDS is an annual bike-a-thon campaign that raises awareness about the HIV+AIDS pandemic in Africa , while also demonstrating to Canadians that they can make a difference.  Every year in the summer we hold fun-filled, family-friendly, bike-athon events across  Canada.

Since 2005, CAP AIDS has provided more than 600 new bikes and other supports to AIDS Service Organizations and outreach workers in five African countries, namely: Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania and South Africa.

Bike 2 CAP AIDS Bike-a-thon Campaign 2010

For the 2010 Bike 2 CAP AIDS Bike-a-thon Campaign, bike-a-thon events will be held in Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria and Ottawa on the following dates:
  • Toronto: Saturday, June 19, 2010
  • Vancouver: Saturday, June 19, 2010
  • Ottawa: Sunday, June 20, 2010
  • Victoria: Saturday, June 26, 2010

In 2010, the Bike 2 CAP AIDS Campaign has two practical and important goals:

  1. 170 local African heroes will be supported with a new bicycle and other supports. With a sustainable and affordable means of transportation, these local heroes can provide HIV AIDS prevention, care, and support services to 5 times as many people, and have a much bigger impact;
  2. 130 AIDS-orphaned African youth will be provided with vocational skills training.  With a skilled vocation, orphaned youth can gain employment, earn a better living, rebuild their confidence, and care for their younger siblings.

Together, by achieving these goals we will make a direct, grassroots contribution in the fight to resist, survive and overcome AIDS.
